Generalities:

When the thymus fails, immunodeficiency occurs because it governs the lymphatic system and the production of T lymphocytes, CD4, CD8. The thymus also intervenes in the formation of the bones and the development of the genitals. Other symptoms may be: muscle weakness and hormonal disharmony.

Causes:

It can be affected by E. Coli or Proteus Mirabillis. There are rare cases in which the thymus can be affected by congenital diseases related to faults in the genetic code; or by Cancer: thymomas or thymic carcinomas.
