Generalities:
Throat cancer is rare, it develops mainly in adulthood. It begins with the formation of polyps that can continue to grow and affect the vocal cords making speech (hoarsely voice) and breathing impossible (suffocation). In fact, under the term of throat cancer we include various structures that can be affected such as the pharynx, epiglottis, and larynx or all of them simultaneously, due to its proximity. In addition to the symptoms already described, it also presents with a cough and there may be weight loss due to dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). The main causes are:
- Smoking
- Alcoholism or abuse of other drug
- Papillomatosis, respiratory tract infection by Papilloma virus, sexually transmitted
- Continuous exposure to irritants such as fumes (firewood, machinery ...), hazardous substances (solvents, chemicals ...)
- Gastroesophageal reflux
- Poor nutrition: excess fat and lack of fruits and vegetables.
There are many treatments to eradicate laryngeal cancer if it is detected in early stages that include laser beam techniques, chemotherapy ... In this article we present some pairs directly related to throat cancer. Proper treatment requires full scanning.
