Generalities:
They belong to the Enterobacteria family, they are gram-negative aerobic bacteria. Its natural habitat is water and soil. They infect humans in particular circumstances: open wounds, respiratory tract and urinary system. The pathogenic species in humans are S. Fonticola (cervical plexus - ray bulb) and S. Marcescens (polo - urethra).
Other complications that may occur are endocarditis, bacteremia, arthritis and osteomyelitis, meningitis, urogenital infections, conjunctivitis (due to the use of contact lenses).
