Rheumatic fever is a complication or sequel of bacterial infection by
Streptococcus pyogenes.

It only occurs when the infection occurs with pharyngitis. The toxins of the bacteria confuse the body's immune system causing inflammatory processes that can affect the skin, joints, brain and heart disorders: pericarditis, endocarditis, myocarditis and / or pancarditis.

It can become a recurrent or chronic condition.
