Generalities:
Ankylosing spondylitis, spondyloarthrosis also called morbus Bechterew, or Bechterew-Strümpell-Marie disease, rheumatic spondylitis and ankylosing spondylitis, is a chronic rheumatic autoimmune disease with pains and gradual hardening of the joints, particularly in the low back and Hip. Over time these vertebrae become merged.
The disease can be due to several factors such as overweight, overstretching, deformation of the spine or pathogens (see related pairs)
Symptoms:
- Pain and stiffness at night and in the morning.
- Pain decreases with activity.
- The pain begins between the lumbar and the pelvis, as the disease progresses the pain and stiffness goes up the spine.
- It can also affect the rib cage making breathing difficult.
- The shoulders, knees, ankles, etc.can also be affected.
- In the head it causes inflammation and redness of the eyes.
- Other symptoms may be: moderate fever, inappetence, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis.
