Generalities:

Creatinine results from the metabolism of creatine, a compound that nourishes muscles and is eliminated through the kidneys. The normal values of the creatinine in blood are:

  • Men: between 0,7 y 1,3 mg/dL.
  • Women: between 0,6 y 1,1 mg/dL.

The most common symptoms are dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea or vomiting, weight loss, irritation of the skin, swollen hands and feet, pain when urinating.

The most frequent causes of this disorder are:

  • Renal insufficiency due to a kidney disorder such as infection.
  • Obstruction of the urinary tract, which can lead to kidney stones.
  • Dehydration, not taking enough water, which hinders the work of the urinary system.
  • Certain muscular diseases such as rhabdomyolysis.
  • Type II diabetes
  • Preeclampsia and eclampsia are metabolic disorders that occur during pregnancy and can also damage the function of the kidneys.
